Being a high level competitive hockey player, women’s competitive (Vancouver area) and speed skater (Top 10 – Masters World Ranked), I put together both skating disciplines to develop a unique and innovative power skating program. Over the past 10 years I developed and ran the power skating program at the Richmond Olympic Oval and in the Kamloops and North Thompson area. My program combines the quickness and agility of hockey skating with the stride efficiency of speed skating. I focus on the fundamentals first and then progressively build up to advanced techniques using body mechanics, physics, efficiency, strength and conditioning. I personally explain and demonstrate every skill making sure skaters fully understand how important proper technique is. I don’t just coach, but I teach the players how to maximize each skill to reach his or her full potential in a fun yet structured and disciplined environment.
I currently live in the Shuswap region, 30 minutes east of Kamloops and I have recently developed a power skating program for Kamloops Minor Hockey and area. With my 23+ years of coaching and being a competitive athlete, I feel I can be a positive and inspirational role model for athletes of all ages. I always strive to lead by example, both mentally and physically, and I strongly believe in positive motivation and encouragement, pushing all skaters to be the best they can be. In turn these skaters do not simply gain skill but they gain confidence as well, which is important to development of any kind.
I am excited about this new opportunity to work with the players in this region and help develop a strong competitive edge for their hockey future. Can’t wait to get on the ice!!
